I moderated a panel for etsy at the Social Media Week Berlin.

Every year I conduct a weekend-workshop for students specializing in dance, performance and acting at the Folkwang Universität der Künste Essen. In groups of 2 to 4 students they have to develop and perform a little scene using up to 3 cameras plus monitors and screens.

Once again we did a musci/dance/projection-workshop for teenagers and young adults at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg in collaboration with K3. It was called Hero-Camp and refered to the stories of Baron Münchhausen and “Baron Münchhausen - Ein Comic Opera” by Wolfgang Mitterer.

I did the presentation of the International Competition and the moderation of the Animation Talks at the Internationales Trickfilmfestival Stuttgart and got my first fan letter. what a beautiful surprise.

ich wollte mich bei Ihnen - eigentlich schon letztes Jahr - für Ihre wundervollen Moderationen beim Internationalen Wettbewerb bedanken. Ich besuche die Veranstaltung seit vielen Jahren, aber seit Sie sie moderieren, doppelt so gerne. Sie schaffen es immer wieder, mit “unspektakulären” Gesprächseinstiegen selbst in der sehr kurzen Zeit, den Filmemachern wirklich spannende Informationen über sich selbst und ihre Werke zu entlocken.

Besonders gut haben mir dieses Jahr beispielsweise Ihre Gespräche mit Sonya Kendel über “Pishto Uyeszhayet” und mit Svetlana Filippova über “Là où meurent les chiens” gefallen.

Sonya Kendel machte nicht den Eindruck, als habe sie ursprünglich vorgehabt, ihr Vorbild für Pishto offenzulegen - Ihnen hat sie es erzählt. Und bei Svetlana Filippova hatte man schon den Verdacht, der Animationsfilm sei Ihre einzige Möglichkeit mit ihrer Umwelt in Kontakt zu treten - bis sie auf Sie traf …

Auch wenn mich (was nicht selten der Fall ist) ein Film vor erhebliche Rätsel stellt, wahren Sie zuverlässig die letzte Chance der (vermutlich nicht wenigen) “Amateure” im Publikum, doch noch einen Blick auf die Intention des Regisseurs zu erhaschen. Oder - wie im Fall von Frédérick Tremblays Film “Princesse” - den Zuschauer in seiner Überraschung insoweit zu rehabilitieren, als der Filmemacher letztlich bekennt, dass er sich selbst vom Fortgang seiner Geschichte während der Entstehung überraschen ließ.

Ich hoffe, dass Sie dem Festival noch lange erhalten bleiben und freue mich auf “Ihren” Internationalen Wettbewerb 2013!

The Elbphilharmonie Hamburg together with K3 held a “Faust-Camp” for teenagers and young adults during the autumn holidays. Annika Schmitz (music) and musicans from the Ensemble Resonanz, Friederike Lampert (dance), Liz Rech (performance) and me (video) held the workshops, using the silent movie “Faust” by F.W.Murnau as a starting point. impressions from the workshop and the final performance.
